Moving to Tarma I knew making this town my own would be very important for my happiness. So I started with the easiest task, making my new room my home. I knew that my happiness would be greatly improved by making a room that I would love to spend my free time painting, the sickest of days, and even the really gloomy days when I don’t want to leave my bed.
First order of business, I knew the wall color had to go and my inner interior designer said go with a neutral. But living in Peru, I don’t think it would be possible for me to get by with a less than colorful room. So one day I was a little down and decided it was time for me to take action and present myself with a cheering up action. Little did I know the actual painting process here would drive me even crazier. Here in Peru, they add water to their paint before painting the walls this caused a few issues. 1. It was so watered down that I was covered by paint at the end of the process. 2. The second day I didn’t add the same amount of water (they just eyed the amount of water) so my walls were very splotchy and drove OCD me insane. Then right on time I ran out of paint so I had to go buy another thing of paint, only to use 1/4th.
I knew I wanted to do something special that made my room, mine. It’s not surprising that I chose to paint flowers all over my wall, floral patterns are my favorite. I put on a season of The Mindy Project and slaved in my room for a weekend until I finally finished my walls. And now I feel a little more at home, even when I am so far from my home.
Other important aspects of my room:
-My wood paintings: I will be sure to make another post specifically about my new hobby- painting discarded pieces of wood.
-Flowers: I always have flowers in my room, would you expect less from someone that loves flowers and lives in the flower city of Peru?
-Photos: Photos are always a great reminder of lives path, plus I love lookin at all my family and friend’s faces.
-Charango: Not only is this lil beb a decoration, it is a new hobby I have been trying to learn. The charango is the Andean ukulele, sadly it is not as easy as a ukulele so I’m planning on it taking me my entire service to learn.
-My owl collection
-My frame containing postcards from the places I’ve been surrounding one of my favorite photos of my grandmother.
I still have a few more projects to finish, but overall I am extremely happy with how my hard work turned out :)
